I highly recommend Esperanza Rising. It is a phenominal book that displays a teenagers hope and courage through her family crises.
Esperanza goes from living a life of luxury, with maids, beautiful clothing, and a family ranch to living with absolutely nothing on a farm in a labor camp. A tragedy takes the life of her father, in which she must excape the wonderful life in order to live. She must endure hard work when her mother gets extremely ill and help with the financial struggles that she is not used to.
Not only does this book provide an outstanding visual for what life was like during the Depression, it makes one appreciate what they have.
